Water Fluoridation

Researched and written by Michelle Wolhuter RCST

I found out about the intent of the South African government to add fluoride to the drinking water by reading a local newspaper article.  This spurred me on to do some research, the findings of which are summarized below.  This information is worth knowing – no matter where you live on this planet.  There is a tremendous amount of information available on fluoride and its side effects – this just touches the tip of the ice-burg.

What is Fluoride

Fluorine is a highly reactive element which likes to bond with other elements – fluorine added to water has commonly become known as fluoride.  Fluoride occurs naturally in water in certain areas of the world, most often in volcanic environments e.g. Naples in Italy or Pilansberg in South Africa.  The fluoride naturally found in water is calcium fluoride (CaF2).

When water is artificially fluoridated sodium fluoride (NaF), sodium silicofluoride or hydrofluosilic acid is added.  These types of fluorides are waste products, which come from various industries, such as the aluminium and phosphate fertilizer industry.  They are incredibly toxic – more poisonous than lead and only slightly less poisonous than arsenic (Clin Toxicol Commerc Prod, 1984;  11:4,112, 129, 138).  They have been used as pesticides, and are a component in fungicides, rodenticides, anaesthetics and many drugs.  They are also used in toothpaste, mouth rinses and dental gels.   In animal studies it has been shown that the lethal dose of sodium fluoride is approximately 50 times smaller than naturally occurring fluoride.

The 1920’s and ‘30s saw the astronomical growth of the aluminum and phosphate fertilizer industries.  Their rapid growth gave rise to unexpected pollution problems.  The pollutant – fluoride. Getting rid of this waste product caused an international dumping problem, similar to that of atomic waste. One means of profitable disposing of fluoride was to sell it as a rat poison and insecticide.  It also got put into the public drinking water in certain countries (and still is to this day).

The government and the dental profession in certain countries have convinced the public that fluoridated water offers nothing but benefits – they say that there is overwhelming evidence that it prevents tooth decay and contributes to the strength of bones.

Does Fluoride Prevent Cavities?

In a word – no.  Studies from America, Canada and new Zealand show no difference in the rates of tooth decay between fluoridated and non-fluoridated areas (Fluoride, 1990;23: 55 – 67).  Indeed, some studies indicate that the average rates of tooth decay in children are lower in non- or low-fluoridated areas (J Can Dent Assoc., 1987; 53: 753-5; Am J Phys Anthropol, 1989; 78:79-92).

In fluoridated areas, high percentages of the population suffer from dental fluorosis, where teeth are mottled from high deposits of fluoride.  In Birmingham (United Kingdom), where water has been fluoridated at 1 ppm since 1964, more that a third of children suffer from dental fluorosis (Health & Homeopathy, Spring, 1998: 24 –5).

Effects on the teeth first manifest themselves as pitting and cavities on the surface of the tooth enamel due to demineralisation, at levels of fluoride as low as 0.5mg/l or 0.5 ppm.

(Extracts from What Doctors Don’t Tell you – March 1999)

There are many studies done which prove that adding fluoride to the drinking water has absolutely nothing to do with preventing tooth decay – see website listings at the end of this article should you wish to do further research in this regard.

In South Africa the Minister of Health, Manto Tshabalala-Msimang, indicated that water service providers are obliged to fluoridate the water to a concentration level of up to 0.7mg/l    (Roodepoort Record Newspaper – October, 3, 2003)

Let’s go back to the beginning

In 1938, Dr Gerald Cox of the Mellon Institute (the Mellons were owners of the Aluminum Company of America) began promoting the addition of fluoride to public water systems, claiming that it would reduce tooth decay.  In the October 1944 issue of the Journal of the American Dental Association, a warning was issued against the use of fluoride saying that “the potentialities for harm far outweigh those for good”.  Despite this, three months later fluoride was added to the drinking water of Grand Rapids, Michigan.  In 1950, long before any studies had been done to determine whether the addition of fluoride to the public water supplies was a safe and effective means for reducing tooth decay, the United States Public Health Service and the American Dental Association endorsed fluoridation.  Within a short time thereafter, Muskegon, the control city in the Grand Rapids study was fluoridated.  This effectively covered up the fact that the tooth decay rate in nonfluoridated Muskegon had decreased to about the same extent as had fluoridated Grand Rapidsand that fluoridation was ineffective.  AT THIS TIME THE GREENLIGHT WAS GIVEN FOR A NATIONWIDE FLUORIDATION CAMPAIGN IN AMERICA.

The Plot Thickens – let’s dig a little deeper

During the darkest days of World War II, hundreds of thousands of innocent people were exterminated in German and Russian concentration camps. Death from disease, starvation and extreme brutality was an everyday occurrence, and this was regularly compounded by the use of drugs and chemicals.  Nazi scientists, keen to maintain a climate of fear, had found an easy method of controlling the behavior of camp inmates.  Repeated doses of very small amounts of fluoride were discovered to affect the brain, slowly poisoning and narcotizing people, making them submissive.  Eager to exploit the effects of the drug, both German and Russian camp commanders added fluoride to water supplies.

The effects of fluoridated water greatly impressed German and Russian intelligence.  They considered fluoridated water the ideal means of controlling Allied populations once their countries had been invaded by German forces.  Anticipating victory in the war, the German chemical manufacturers L.G. Farben, based in Frankfurt, became responsible for mass producing fluoride for the death camps and other possible future uses.

At the end of World War II, the United States sent Charles Eliot Perkins, a research worker in chemistry, pathology and physiology, to study the mind-control technology of I.G. Farben.  Perkins drew several shocking conclusions from his investigations in Germany.  The idea of mass control through water medication was seized upon by Russian Communists because it fitted ideally into their plans to communize the world.

Lets make some connections

I.G. Farben expanded massively in the 1920’s as it merged with the Wall Street concerns of the likes of Henry Ford’s motor company, J.P. Morgan’s General Motors and Standard Oil, owned by the Rockefeller family.   Millions of US dollars were invested in these concerns in the 1930s, and this relationship continued throughout WW II.  Coincidentally, it is interesting to note that no I.G. Farben factories or plants were bombed, sabotaged or even damaged by the Allies during the war.   It is also known that a number of influential figures in United States commerce and industry invested a substantial amount of time and money in I.G. Farben projects before and after the war.  Among them was the Mellon family.

Some Food for Thought

·         Around 5.5 million people drink artificially fluoridated water in the UK, mainly in the Midlands, the north east and areas of Ireland.

·         According to fluoride researcher Ian E. Stephens, Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher tripled the water-fluoridation budget in Northern Ireland during the mid 80s. Stephens speculated that this was not motivated by concern for dental health, but an attempt to pacify political activists in the area.

·         Over 60 tranquilizers on the market contain fluoride, which profoundly increases the potency of other substances.  Fluoridating the ubiquitous tranquilizer Diazepam (Valium) produces a new, stronger tranquilizer, Rohypnol.  Both are manufactured by Roche Products, another subsidiary of I.G. Farben, along with other similar drugs.  The powerful fluoridated tranquilizer Stelazine is widely used in retirement homes and mental institutions around the world.  The US FDA estimates of Prozac related suicides is 188 000 and deaths 175 000.  Prozac is a fluoride compound.

What effect does fluoride have on the body?

Fluoride brittles and structurally effects bones:  At the recommended level (1ppm), fluoride thins and brittles the bones (fluorosis) and it doubles the number of hip fractures in older men and women in fluoridated communities.  Increases in hip fractures are found at even 1/10th the recommended level.  There is much published evidence that it causes osteoporosis at very low levels.  It has a devastating effect on skeletal development in babies and children.

Dental fluorosis:  a defect in the formation of tooth enamel in children which results in mottled teeth.  This is not reversible and remains for life.

Soft tissue damage:   The late US fluoride critic George L Waldbott discovered that, besides teeth and bones, fluoride can damage soft tissue.  The small fluorine ion with a high-charge density can penetrate every cell of the body and combine with other ions (GL Walbott et al, Fluoride:  The Great Dilemma, Lawrence, Kansas:  Corenado Press, 1978: 148-74).  It interferes with the metabolism of calcium and phosphorus and the function of the parathyroid glands.  I

It has a strong affinity to calcium, but will also readily combine with magnesium and manganese ions and so can interfere with many enzyme systems that require these minerals.  The interruption of these enzyme systems, in turn, disturbs carbohydrate metabolism, bone formation and muscle function.  Indeed, every vital function in the body depends on enzymes;  because fluoride easily reaches every organ, many diverse toxic symptoms can result.

The blood enzyme cholinesterase is inhibited by 61% on exposure to 0.95 ppm fluoride – an amount within recommended levels – adversely affecting functions of the nervous system

It’s also been shown by research at Kings College in London that fluoride forms very strong hydrogen bonds with amides, which are formed when amino acids join together to form a protein.  This can cause chromosomal damage.  If the protein is distorted, the body’s immune system no longer recognises it, treats it as a foreign protein and will try to destroy it, which in turn triggers allergic skin or gastrointestinal reactions.

Stomach and bowel disorders are the main features of fluoride intolerance.  Even small amounts of fluoride can form hydrofluoric acid in the stomach to produce gastric pains, nausea and vomiting.  Young children are particularly at risk.

Links with thyroid disease:  the most readily identifiable feature of soft-tissue fluorosis is extraordinary general fatigue, which is frequently linked to thyroid deficiency.  The thyroid gland requires iodine to produce the hormone thyroxine, which controls the rate of metabolism in the body.  But when fluorine is present, iodine is displaced, which will cause the thyroid gland to stop working properly (K Roholdm Handbuch Experimenteller Pharma-kologie, Ergaenzungswerk, Vol 7, Berlin:Springer, 1938:20).

The parathyroid gland, which regulates the distribution of calcium and phosphorus in the body, is extremely sensitive to excessive amounts of fluoride.  Over 50 years ago, Indian doctors found a close relationship between skeletal fluorosis and hyperparathyroidism.

Professor A K Susheela of the Fluoride and Fluorosis Research Foundation of India has published over 100 scientific papers on the hazards of fluoride.  She has proved that when exposed to fluoride, red blood cells are killed prematurely, lowering haemoglobin and causing anaemia.  She also showed that calcium levels diminish as fluoride levels in the body rise;  the gastrointestinal tract mucosa is damaged, causing irritable bowl syndrome, and blood fluoride levels rise continuously with prolonged use of fluoridated toothpaste.  When people are bombarded with fluoride, in the form of fluoridated water, toothpaste and mouth rinses, muscles and elements of connective tissue, particularly collagen fiber and bone tissue undergo degenerative changes.

The heart and blood vessels are affected by fluoride.  In 1950, five years after experimental introduction of fluoride into drinking water in Grand Rapids, the number of deaths from heart disease nearly doubled.  Death rates due to cancer, diabetes and arteriosclerosis were all markedly increased compared to death rates for the rest of the state.

Fluoride affects the brain and entire central nervous system.  Neurological problems like headaches, vertigo, spasticity in extremities, visual disturbances and impaired mental acuity can all result.  Tissue damage to anterior horn cells (cells in the forward-facing section of the spinal cord) has been found (Fluoride, 1975; 8: 61-85).

Official annual statistics revealed that among malnourished children in the Chilean town of Curico, fluoridated since 1953, death rates were 104% higher than in comparable, non-fluoridated towns.

Fluoride and Fertility:  Abnormal sperm cells which have been damaged by fluoride, can give rise to birth defects.  Vitamin E is the sex vitamin as it improves fertility and virility .  Vitamin E and other antioxidants protect the body against reactive oxidants which damage the DNA of tissue cells causing genetic changes and cancer.  Fluoride destroys Vit E, and is one of the reasons why 10 – 20 million American men are losing their virility and becoming sterile – they produce less sperm and it is of poor quality.  The Medical Research Council in Scotland found that men born after 1970 had a 24% lower sperm count than men born 12 years earlier.

(Extract from a paper by Dr Frank Bertrand, B.D.S. Dunelm)

Fluoride, Hyperactivity and Violence:  Fluoride ingestion by children is extremely hazardous to biological development and lifespan.  Apart from having a devastating effect on bone growth and immune function (remember a child’s immune and nervous system is forming), fluoride affects a child’s learning capabilities.  Prof. Carlson (pharmacology – University of Sweden) has shown that IQ levels of children are much lower in fluoridated areas.  Several studies have shown that exposure to fluoride can cause behavioral changes. (Int Clin Psychopharmacol, 1994; 9: 79-82;  Neurotoxicol and Teratol, 1995;  17:  169-77;  Fluoride, 1996;  187-8).

At a 1998 conference on fluoride in Washington, Professor Roger Masters reported a link between the blood lead levels of 280,000 children in Massachusetts and the use of silicofluorides for water fluoridation;  fluoride increases the toxic effects and absorption of lead.  Both in Britain and in Georgia, behaviours associated with lead toxicity, such as violent crime, are more frequent in communities using water fluoridation than in areas not fluoridated.  At the same conference, Dr Phyllis Mullinix, a neuro-toxicologist at Boston Children’s Hospital reported results of a study using two steroids to treat childhood leukemia, one of which had a fluorine atom in its structure.  The steroid caused behaviour patterns typical of hyperactivity.  A follow-up study showed a significant drop in average IQ scores, compared with children using the non-fluoride drug (Fluoride, 1998;31:175).

Could fluoride be an undisclosed contributing factor to the ‘epidemic’ of ADD, ADHD and hyperactivity in our children at this time?

Nature holds up huge warning signs

·         Nature is very sparing with fluoride

·         Even in fluoridated areas the lactating mother’s system filters out the fluoride before it gets into the breastmilk.  Mother’s milk contains only 0.01 – 0.05 ppm fluoride, a level of fluoride below what is found in any other food.  This is nature’s way of protecting the small child from fluoride damage.

·         Bottle-fed babies whose formula (which often contains fluoride) is made up with fluoridated water will get between 4 and 20 times as much fluoride as is contained in breastmilk, and at any rate more than the maximum dosage which is considered safe.

Fluorosilic acid increases the leaching of aluminium from cookware.  Aluminium is considered one of the principal causes of Alzheimer’s disease.  It is not just a coincidence that Alzheimer’s and other diseases became prominent at the same time as the introduction of fluoride to the drinking waters of municipalities throughout the world.

Shortly after the introduction of fluoride into drinking water systems, a team funded by the Medical Research Council in Newcastle-upon-Tyne found high concentrations of aluminium in the cores of plaques found in the brain cells of Alzheimer’s Disease sufferers.

Fluoride and the Immune System:  The immune system is the body’s major defense mechanism against disease.  White blood cells serve as the body’s surveillance system, recognizing and destroying foreign agents such as bacteria, viruses, chemicals as well as the body’s own obsolete, damaged, or cancerous cells.

In order for white blood cells to get to the agent that they must destroy, they must first be passively carried to the general area through the bloodstream.  At that point, they must squeeze through the walls of blood vessels and literally “creep” through to the location of the agent to be destroyed.

Dr Sheila Gibson from the University of Glasgow, showed that fluoride, at levels comparable to those found in the blood of people living in fluoridated areas, decreased migration rate of human white blood cells.  As can be seen from the following chart, exposure of white blood cells to as little as 0.1 part per million fluoride for six hours decreased the migration rate to 79% of those receiving no fluoride.  In other words, a 6-hour exposure of white cells to 0.1 part per million fluoride inhibits migration rate by 21%.

The fact that as little as 0.1 part per million fluoride retarded white cell migration to a substantial degree indicates that there may be no safe level of fluoride.

The destruction of bacteria and other foreign agents by white cells is called phagocytosis.  Fluoride depletes the energy reserves and the ability of white blood cells to properly destroy foreign agents by phagocytosis.  Even micomolar amounts of fluoride, i.e. below 1 part per million, may seriously depress the ability of white blood cells to destroy pathogenic agents.

Fluoride confuses the immune system and causes it to attack the body’s own tissues (called an autoimmune response).  In such cases, the clinical observations of skin rashes, gastrointestinal disorders, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis etc. are to be expected.   Fluoride slows down and weakens those very cells which serve as the body’s defense system and thus allows foreign agents such as bacteria, viruses, and chemicals as well as the body’s own damaged, or cancerous cells to wreak havoc throughout the body.  Otherwise minor infections, now fighting an immune system weakened by fluoride, take longer to throw off and more serious illnesses result.  Cancer cells which might otherwise be contained or destroyed end up taking the life of the victim.

This fluoride-induced weakening of the immune system explains the results of Drs. Alfred Taylor and Nell Taylor of the University of Texas who found that fluoride in the drinking water at levels of one-half to one part per million increased tumor growth rate in cancer-prone mice by 15-25%.  (Dr John Yiamouyiannis:  Fluoride The Aging Factor, Chapter 3)

Genetic Damage and Cancer:  The ability of fluoride to cause genetic damage is so well recognized that investigators are now trying to find ways to counteract its genetic damaging effects.

Substances like fluoride which cause genetic damage are called mutagenic substances and it is a well-accepted fact that substances which are mutagenic also tend to be carcinogenic, or cancer producing.  In fact, this is exactly what has been found with regard to fluoride.

Dr Takeki Tsutsui and co-workers of the Nippon Dental College in Japan showed that fluoride not only caused genetic damage but was also capable of transforming normal cells into cancer cells.  They found that cells treated with 34 and 45 parts per million fluoride produced cancer when injected under the skin of otherwise healthy adult hamsters. (Fluoride, The Aging Factor, Chapter 8 [Genetic Damage and Cancer])

Dr Wolfgang Klein and co-workers at the Seibersdorf Research Center in Austria reported that 1 ppm fluoride inhibits DNA repair enzyme activity by 50%.  Since fluoride inhibits DNA repair enzyme activity, it will lead to an increase in genetic or chromosome damage. (Fluoride, The Aging Factor, Chapter 8 [Genetic Damage and Cancer])

From  a careful examination of the work of Drs Burk (U.S. National Cancer Institute) and Yiamouyiannis, the best indication is that fluoride exposure from fluoridation alone results in a 5 – 10% increase in cancer death rate.  This means that 10 000 to 20 000 people in the United States die of cancer each year due to fluoridation of public drinking waters.  (Fluoride, The Aging Factor, Chapter 9 [The Human Sacrifice])

“Everything causes cancer?  Perhaps.  Conceivably even a single electron

at the other side of the universe.  The real question is, how likely is any one

particular cause?  In point of fact, fluoride causes more human cancer deaths,

and causes it faster, than any other chemical.”

Dean Burk, Chief Chemist Emeritus (U.S. National Cancer Institute)

Minimising your fluoride Exposure

To help avoid fluoride toxicity

·         Take adequate amounts of vitamins B6 and C.  Supplement with calcium and magnesium salts to help decrease fluoride absorption from the stomach and assist in elimination.  (this is for people who live in areas where the water is fluoridated and where they may suspect fluoride toxicity - consult a knowledgeable nutritionist and health care professional for advice in this arena).

·         Maintain good general and dental health with a whole food diet (varied vegetables (lightly cooked or raw), fresh fruits and pulses.  Limit sugar intake and processed foods.

·         In areas where the water is fluoridated, install a water purification system that removes fluoride (not all water filters remove fluoride – a specialized filter needs to be used – do your homework when buying a filter)

·         Avoid the following drugs which contain fluoride:  Prozac (fluoxetine), Rohypnol (flunitrazepam), Diflucan (fluconazole, Flixonase or Flixotide (fluticasone), Stelazine (trifluoperazine, Fluanxol or Depoxol (flupenthixol) or Floxapen (flucloxacillin).

·         Use fluoride-free toothpaste, like Tom’s, Tea Tree, Sarakan, Natural Propolis, Weleda, Aloedent and others.  Avoid mouth rinses and dental gel treatments.

·         Avoid fluoride supplements

What is the current situation in South Africa

In September 2000 the Department of Health legislated regulations in respect of fluoridation of potable water in South Africa.  Fluoridating potable water is considered by some as being unconstitutional in that the use of fluoridated water is forced on consumers who have no choice in the matter.  During the past 5 years water boards, and Rand Water in particular, has made several submissions to the appropriate ministries.  A key aspect of these submissions is that Rand Water sought indemnity from the Department of health against any claims arising from the fluoridation of water that may give rise to possible health implications or impact on the environment or industrial water users.  The Department of Health responded that any claims regarding possible health implications or impact on the environment on industrial water users must be made against the Minister of Health.  It is mistakenly believed that fluoride, in the correct concentration, is effective in protecting teeth and is especially necessary for children.  The rationale for supplementing potable water with fluoride is that South Africans, particularly those in rural areas who do not use fluoridated toothpaste, would benefit.  Given that most people in rural areas do not receive piped water the benefit will not reach the target population.

Rand Water does not consider fluoridation of water as the highest priority for South Africa.  In fact, the total estimated national cost of R30 000 000.00 (that’s right R30 million) per annum should rather be used to extend the provision of free water to South Africans.  Based on Rand Water’s experience the R30 million could extend water provision to some 300 000 unserved consumers.

The Department of Health has legislated regulation indicating that water service providers are obliged to fluoridate water to a concentration level of up to 0,7mg F/l as of September 2002.

Lerato Motsoeneng, scientific services specialist of Rand Water, said that Rand Water and the Department of Water Affairs and Forestry were in talks about the fluoridation issue

“Rand Water will, one the go-ahead is given, set up a fluoridation plant at Bloemendal.  This will be used as evaluation before it can be applied to other areas,” said Motsoeneng.

The South African local government association said that the implementation of fluoride would begin in “front-runner municipalities where the agreement of the council has been obtained”.

(Extract from the Roodepoort Record Oct 3, 2003)

Some questions that come to mind are:  Who are these front-runner municipalities?

Is the government allowed to fluoridate without getting the public’s agreement?  Does this not go against our constitution?  Medicating people without their knowledge must be breaking the law on some level?

Since when has the government become so concerned about teeth when we have starving, homeless and jobless people in our country

Impact of Water Fluoridation on the Environment

To meet the required standard of 0,7 ppm of fluoride (the ‘proposed’ amount to be put into our water), Rand Water will dose 1 500 kg of fluoride per day into the drinking water.  However, of the 1 500 kg per day only 9,8 kg will be used by consumers for drinking purposes.  Considering other consumptive uses, it is estimated that 1 000 kg of fluoride will find its way back into the environment.

As water is a scarce commodity in South Africa it is recycled and this should be considered in the overall water use strategy.  Fluoridation of Rand Water’s supply at a rate of 0,5 mg f/l will introduce 365 tons of fluoride per annum into the environment.  Fluoride is non-biodegradable.

If 0,5 mg F/l is added to our water supply this would theoretically imply (during periods of drought or the dry season) that the effluent concentrations will also increase by 0,5mg F/l as fluorides are not appreciably removed through the wastewater treatment process.  This for example could increase the average fluoride concentration in the effluent emanating from a works near Alberton to approximately 0.9 mg F/l which is only 0,1 mg F/l less than receiving water quality criteria.  This may start presenting a problem to both the receiving streams and the downstream users if not managed with care.

From an article written by Tony Carnie (CNN’s African Health/Medical Journalist of the year 2000) it seems that the Pelindaba nuclear/chemical complex (set up by the apartheid government in the 60’s to produce atomic bombs and enriched uranium fuel), is set to become the major supplier of the hundreds of tons of fluoride which will be needed to add to the drinking water.  Pelchem is believed to be the only local company able to supply enough fluoride for the nationwide water-dosing campaign.  Pelchem stands to boost annual revenue of about R130 million by at least 10% if it corners the local water fluoridation market.

Palchems commercial manager Eddie Valkenbergh said that Pelchem’s fluoride would meet American water works standards, and was a “purer” form of the chemical than fertilizer or aluminium industry.  But Dr Hardy Limeback, former president of the Canadian Association for Dental Research, says the Pelchem supplies could not be regarded as pharmaceutical grade medicine.  He has urged President Mbeki to set up a fluoridation panel to review whether or not South Africans are especially susceptible to the harmful effects of fluoride.

Anti-fluoride information if forever being discredited or suppressed.  The need for this by pro-fluoridationist already makes one suspicious.  If fluoride is harmless why does the Dental Association need to get indemnity for implementing it?  Are people possibly aware of the negative effects and need to protect themselves from future lawsuits?  Can we really assume that the dental welfare of children is that important?  When powerful financial considerations are at work, it is difficult to ascertain true motives.

Environmental scientists in the United States report that fluoride is accumulating both in the human body and in the environment at a rate and to such an extent that the earlier promoters did not foresee.

Dr David Kennedy writes:  Last Year (1995) the municipalities around San Francisco Bay dumped more than 90,000 pounds of fluoride in the bay in tapwater runoff.  Adding literally hundreds of tons of fluoride to the nations’s waterways has contaminated the entire ecology of our country and eventually the planet.  It is simply a gross mistake.”

As at September 2004, the situation is still unclear.  Rand Water are still fighting legal battles against the implementation of fluoride, and the government is still insistent that they have a mandate to implement it.  Carltonville has been named as one of the forerunner municipalities that will be fluoridated.

In Conclusion:

Water is a fundamental element of Life.  We start our journey to this realm in the watery world of the womb - it is a part of us and we are a part of it.

My wish for us at this crucial time on our Mother Earth is the ability to see things as they truly are, and the consequent empowerment to choose how we stand in this society.

May we all take this knowledge and do with it what serves the highest interest, whether it be caring for the diseased, preventing the sixth extinction, working to shape and inspire a new society or raising tomorrow in our children.  Let us all choose wisely.
